MAJ Barnes, a native of Ohio, enlisted in the Army in 2003 as a 19D Cavalry Scout. While enlisted, he served as a Scout Team Leader, Section Sergeant, and Platoon Sergeant at Fort Liberty, NC, and Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.  He served in Iraq in 2006 and deployed to Afghanistan in 2009 and again in 2011. In 2015, MAJ Barnes earned his commission as a Military Intelligence Officer through the Green to Gold program at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. 

After Commissioning, MAJ Barnes was again assigned to JBER, Alaska, where he served as a Brigade S-2 planner, Military Intelligence Company Platoon Leader, and Executive Officer. He deployed to Afghanistan once again in 2017. MAJ Barnes was then assigned to Fort Huachuca, Arizona, where he served as a Company Commander for the Geospatial Intelligence Analyst Advanced Individual Training Company and again as Commander of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 111th MI Brigade. After Company command, MAJ Barnes served as the MI Basic Officer Leaders’ Course Manager for one year.

After leaving Ft. Huachuca, MAJ Barnes was assigned to his current position as an assistant professor of Military Science at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. 

MAJ Barnes resides with his wife and two kids in Hudson, Wisconsin.
