MSG Johnson enlisted in the Army in 2008 out of Monticello, Minnesota. He attended Basic Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, as a 21T Technical Engineer Specialist. MSG Johnson served as a Technical Engineer Specialist and Team leader for the 36th Engineer Detachment, 92nd Engineer Battalion, Fort Stewart, GA, from 2009 to 2012. Served as a Senior Technical Engineer for the 130th Engineer Brigade, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, from 2012 to 2015. Selected to be the Senior Drill Sergeant for C Company 1st Battalion 48th Infantry Regiment, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, from 2015 to 2018; Operations Sergeant for HHC and the First Sergeant for 615th ECC, 4th Engineer Battalion, Fort Carson, Colorado, from 2018 to 2024. MSG Johnson recently served as a 1 Armored Division Inspector General at Fort Bliss, Texas, in 2024. 

MSG Johnson was deployed for 12 months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from 2010- 2011, and for 9 more months from 2013-2014, in support of Shard Accord 19, Joint Accord 19, and Resolute Castle 21 and 23. 

Johnson's military and civilian education includes the Warrior Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, Master Leaders Course, Drill Sergeant Candidate Course, Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officers Course, and the Inspector General's School. MSG Johnson is also a certified Equal Opportunity Leader, Master Resiliency Leader, and Master Marksmanship Trainer. MSG Johnson has obtained an Associate’s Degree in General Studies. 

Johnson'son's awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (4 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (7 OLC), Navy Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Award (5th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 Bronze Stars), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Development Ribbon (4th Award), Combat Action Badge. MSG Johnson is married to his best friend and wife, Briana Johnson, and they have two children.
